Multiple choice test is the first part of driving theory test which consist of 50 questions out of which you need to answer 43 questions right and the time limit is 57 minutes. You can also go for a practice session of the multiple choice questions to get used to the layout of the test. At the end of the practice session the real test will begin. This session is being designed to test your understanding of the theory behind driving.

Hazard perception test is the second part of driving theory test in which you will be shown 14 clips of 1 minute each having 15 hazards in all (1 clip will have 2 hazards respectively). Once you are done with hazard perception test you’ll be invited to answer few customer survey questions. This session is designed to test your alertness of potential hazards whilst driving.

Unlike multiple choice questions, for the hazard perception test there are no separate versions for different vehicles e.g. car, bike, heavy vehicle etc, each vehicle category takes the same test, however the pass mark is different for different categories of tests.

Teen Driving – The Worst States

Even though teens are at higher risk of injury or death in motor vehicle collisions than nearly every single other age group no matter what component of the country they’re in, where teens live can also have an impact on their risk, according to separate studies conducted by Allstate Insurance Organization and Reader’s Digest. Motor vehicle crashes are the number one killer of American teens, and each year, according to the National Highway Visitors Safety Administration (NHTSA), additional than 5,000 men and women aged 16-20 are killed in passenger vehicle crashes.

The Allstate study used federal crash statistics, company claims data on teen motor vehicle crashes, and statistics from the US Census Bureau to list the ten most dangerous cities from the 50 largest metropolitan areas in the United States. The results revealed that the most risky cities for teens are located in the South, with the top 3 in Florida. Of the top 50 cities in the country for teen fatality crashes, Tampa/St. Petersburg/Clearwater, Orlando/Kissimmee, and Jacksonville rank number 1, two and three, respectively.

The Reader’s Digest study uses a distinct classification approach, ranking all 50 states based on existing Graduated Driver Licensing (GDL), safety belt, and Driving Under the Influence (DUI) laws. The report listed Alaska, California and Delaware as the top 3, and North Dakota, Mississippi and Arkansas as three of the worst. Florida is categorized as “Fair,” the next-to-lowest ranking. Interestingly, California cities also scored high in the Allstate study: Numbers one, two and four had been San Francisco/Oakland, San Jose, and Los Angeles.

Factors that contribute to teen motor vehicle crashes contain:

Speeding/driving too quick for conditions
Driver distraction, such as cell phone use and dealing with passengers
Inexperience
Driving at night
Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (including prescription and over-the-counter drugs)

Teens also normally neglect to wear their seat belts, increasing the risk of serious injury or death in a crash. An observational study by the Utah Department of Well being found that the teen seat belt use rate falls when other high-risk factors are present, such as when teens drive under the influence of alcohol, drive at night, have multiple teen passengers, or are driving without a driver’s license.

The risk elements listed above, which includes seat belt requirements, are addressed by GDL laws in several states. GDL laws set standards that underage drivers need to meet just before proceeding from one stage of licensure to the next. In the 1980s, 90% of high schools taught driver’s education; in 2009, only 20% do. This means that teens get the majority of their driver education from their parents and are subject only to state requirements when becoming licensed, making GDL laws of ever-growing importance in lowering teen crash rates.

Whilst a national model for GDL laws has existed since the mid-1990s, no state follows all of the requirements. To show the disparities among states, The National Safety Commission (TNSC) analyzed the GDL laws in four states: California, Florida, Mississippi, and North Dakota. The study showed that:

In California, the minimum age for a drivers permit is 15 years, six months; in Florida and Mississippi, the minimum age is 15. The minimum age in North Dakota is 14.
Although California and Florida each require 50 hours of practice driving with a parent or guardian in the learner’s permit stage, 10 hours of which have to be at night, neither Mississippi nor North Dakota need parental certification of any driving practice hours.
North Dakota does not have any passenger or nighttime restrictions, and Florida and Mississippi have only nighttime restrictions. California’s passenger restriction is that for the initial 12 months, the restricted driver could have no passengers younger than 20, with limited exceptions for immediate family.

The Reader’s Digest study indicated that stricter GDL laws usually result in lower teen fatality rates, and a study by Johns Hopkins University discovered that comprehensive GDL laws decrease fatalities among 16-year-old drivers by 38 percent.

Understanding DWI Laws in Houston, Texas

There was a time when DWI was considered a minor offense, but cultural changes have turned it into a serious charge. Residents arrested for driving drunk, DWI in Houston  can face serious repercussions, ranging from fines on up to time in prison depending on circumstances. The good news is that even though you are charged with Driving While Intoxicated, you are not guilty, and there are a variety of defenses available that can lead to dropped charges or acquittal. You will never know what your options is until you contact an attorney for a free consultation. Here’s what you should know about DWI laws in Texas.

Driving While Intoxicated is defined as operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If the police can prove any drug use, they can charge you with Driving While Intoxicated, and any blood alcohol level over .08 is illegal. If you are operating a commercial vehicle the alcohol level is actually lowered to .04. Minors under the age of 21 face strict zero tolerance laws-any detectable amount of alcohol, even a scent on their breath, will cause them to be charged with Driving Under the Influence. In many states DUI is similar to DWI with slightly different standards of proof, but in Texas DUI is exclusively used to charge minors for driving with any amount of alcohol in their system. If you cause an accident while driving drunk, your penalties can increase dramatically, and any injury is charged as intoxication assault, any deaths can result in up to 20 years in prison.

In general, your first drunk driving charge is treated as a Class B misdemeanor. While this may sound like a minor charge, it is punishable by up to six months in the Harris County jail if you are arrested in Houston Texas or a ,000 fine. Furthermore, as a result of attempts to discourage drinking and driving, drunk driving charges face additional “surcharges” which can mean up to ,000 a year for three years for your first offense. Your second drunk driving charge is a Class A misdemeanor, which carries penalties of up to a year in jail, and the surcharges rise to ,500 a year for three years. In all of these cases probation is likely-you will be required to pay court fees, attend a drunk driving education course, perform up to 100 or 200 hours of community service and perhaps attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings or rehab. You will also likely have your license suspended for six months.

Your third drunk driving charge is a Third Degree felony, which carries a penalty of at least two years in prison (up to 10 years), a ,000 fine plus the surcharges and a license suspension of up to two years. Any charge incurred while a minor under 15 was in the car is a felony, and your second arrest will require a breath-testing ignition lock be installed on your car as a condition of bail. These are serious consequences, and you need a lawyer to protect your interests.

An attorney can prevent a DWI from ruining your life, and might even be able to get the charges dropped. Some of the tests developed to test blood alcohol level are less than reliable, but you cannot challenge these in court unless you have an effective lawyer with experience defending these cases in Houston Texas. A good lawyer can also be the difference between getting only probation and spending months in jail. Your case needs representation, but the longer you wait the less effective we can be. These online classes allow the student to log in and out of a course whenever they choose, and stay in the class for as long as they like in each session. This is an ideal way for teens to earn their California learners permit, because their attention span, whether razor-focused for hours or as brief as a commercial break, can be accommodated and the student can learn the material without being shoehorned into a schedule that does not work well for them.

With most online California driver education programs, the general principles to be taught are the same. However, the method in which the course is presented, and the way in which the course material is organized and delivered, can differ greatly from provider to provider. For this reason, it is a good idea to research a few online driving schools before selecting the one that will be best for a particular student.

One thing to look for in an online school is the look and feel of the web site. Sites with bright colors and flashing text will probably be similar inside – this may be ideal for a teen or it may be distracting. Similarly, those home pages that are more calm and streamlined might allow the student’s mind to be more organized and focused, or they might seem too mature. There is no one right answer when it comes to what look and feel will be right for a given student.

Doing a quick web search will bring up pages full of online California learners permit course providers. A scan of the prices will show that they are not all priced the same – it is important, though, to look at what is included in the price. Some schools post a lowball price at the outset, then charge for every element thereafter, while others are displaying an all-inclusive price that may initially look higher but end up being more reasonable. If a school professes to have the best price but does not when comparing apples to apples, you haven’t only learned something about the price, you’ve learned something about the school.

When you’ve found a chosen provider for the driver’s education class, it is usually possible to register and enroll right there on the spot. You may need some identifying information to complete the form, and some schools ask questions about a student’s likes and dislikes to be further used to identify him or her later. The student can get online and get working immediately, getting him or her one step closer to becoming a licensed driver.

And the best part: they didn’t need to catch a ride to class from anyone!

International Driving Permits

When you are going to rent a car abroad, you might want to think about getting an International Driving Permit. You also need to know about traffic laws abroad. There will almost always be some variations from home.

Some countries say that they require an International Driving Permit. Will that help you know about traffic laws abroad? The short answer is…. NO. There is no test on the rules of the road for an International Drivers Permit. No booklet to read.

You must have a valid driver’s license from your home country or state. All that this permit (the IDP) does is translate your license into ten foreign languages…. English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, German, Arabic, Italian, the Scandinavian languages, and Portuguese.

This makes it easier for police to read. It also certifies the validity of your license; proof to the police abroad, so they don’t have to try to figure out licenses from all over the world.

The IDP shows information in a standard format that is internationally recognized…. It will have your name and other driving license information. Since this IS just a translation and not a driver’s license, you must carry your license along with the permit.

We’ve never been asked for one, even when we were stopped for a minor traffic infraction in Croatia. We’re reading more often that they are required, and that you can be fined if you can’t produce one. While you may never be asked for one, our feeling now is to just get one.

We’ve rented cars in Italy often, with no permit, but the rules have changed. The U.S. Diplomatic Mission to Italy states that “Americans visiting Italy as tourists and intending to drive should obtain an International Driver Permit before leaving the U.S.”

You may or may not be asked for it by the car rental companies wherever you are. We helped Belgian friends pick up their rental car here in the U.S. The car rental agency here in California didn’t want the International Driving Permit… they wanted to see their Belgian driver’s license.

It is, after all, that driver’s license that is proof you are qualified to drive. You want to be able to produce both, though, if you are asked for them.

Americans can get one from the American Automobile Association or the National Auto Club. You need two passport size photos and . The Permit is valid for one year.

Citizens of other countries can get them from government authorized organizations such as national auto associations. Over 150 countries recognize the IDPs and most have agencies which will issue them.

Beware of internet scams. Most of those will try to sell you an “international driver’s license”. Remember, the real thing is not a license… it’s a permit, with translations. If you can’t get a driver’s license at home, even if you DO buy something through these scam artists, it’s not going to do you any good… and it could get you into trouble.

So even if, like us, you’ve never had to bother with an International Driving Permit, it’s probably time to check traffic laws for the country you’re going to visit… and think about getting one.

and guardians to instill the right habits in the right age!

Co-relating this theme with the driving habits, as you notice that your teenager is anxious to drive your car, take out some time for him or her to guide them. This on-time mentoring can not only save your child’s life but as well safe guards the other road users.

Here are some handy tips for you to foster the sense of driving safety in your teen kids.

Enroll @ teen driving school.

Enroll your teen at any of the teen driving schools. These schools impart the essential education on the concepts of driving safety & driving laws. These schools can be availed in two ways. One is of a traditional kind, secondly an online school. Which ever school you opt, you can be assured of your teen learning the safe driving habits along with earning his/her driving permit.

Drive away

Let your child become a “Road Savvy”! Give away your car to your teen and ask him/her drive, every time “you” want to go out. This emphasis on “You” meant for your mandatory presence in the passenger seat in the car. Let your teen drive away where ever possible but obviously with you beside him/her.

Parallel guidance

As quoted earlier, if you let your child drive your vehicle, your presence is of utmost importance as you are required to guide him/her parallely during the drive. This simultaneous guidance by a parent has proven positive results with respect to teen driving. You can impart few driving tips you’ve learnt in your driving experiences. Hence forth, as you guys accompany your teen, make sure you elicit them the right ways in understandable ways.

Frequent, drive-alongs is the best way to keep track of a teen driver’s progress. Remember that the beginning years of driving are important in building strong and right driving habits, which can then lead to a lifetime of safe driving.

Patience is virtue

Err is human, and it’s quite apparent that your child may commit many mistakes while driving. Do remember the fact that he/she is not a professional in this and is very new for him/her to drive behind the wheel. It is very important to pay patience and never ever yell or scream for any misdemeanor at the instance. You can always explain after getting back home, so chill and be patient for their driving mistakes.

Befriend your teen

As gently and calmly as possible, discuss potential problems and solutions, dangers you encountered on the road and things to pay attention to in future trips. Continue to ride with your teen driver from time to time, reviewing safety tips and monitoring his driving skills. Remind your child frequently of the inherent dangers of operating a motor vehicle. Along these same lines, do review the day’s driving once you return home.

Watchful eye -companions

Did you know that more number of mishaps result when a teenager drives other teenagers than when he drives non teenagers. As a parent / guardian, you need to keep track of your child’s movements and the companions. Generally, when teens meet up, the energy & thrill levels boost up leading them to consume drugs and alcohol, other issues, such as speeding and failure to wear seatbelts are evident frequently. In order to rectify on these areas, it is better to be watchful of the company in which he/she is and accordingly take the soft and safety measures to tune them.

Gift a car – Get it insured

Choose a car equipped with the latest protective tools like airbags, ABS, traction control and the like. This makes them less vulnerable in accidents. Your job doesn’t end here; you need to get it insured in your teen’s name. Let him/her realize the fact that risky driving habits might cause heavy financial burden. This instills a sense of responsibility to take care of the driving and the vehicle maintenance.

Defensive Teen

Teach them drive defensively from the beginning itself. This special form of driving strategy prepares them for the potential dangers on roads and highways. In fact, DMV has prescribed the aspects of defensive driving as a part of the teen driver education curriculum. To get updated with the DMV happenings, keep visiting the http://www.cateendriver.com .

The above mentioned have proved out to be highly useful and result oriented. These have been published in the interest of teen driving & road safety.

How to Book Your Practical Driving Test

There are three ways to book the practical driving test. You can book your test online at the DSA website, by telephone and by post. It is possible to book the test on behalf of other people and sometimes you’re driving instructor/school can offer this service with an associated admin fee.

To book the practical element of your driving test you will need to have a valid UK driving license number and a theory test pass certificate number. To confirm your booking you will need to pay by credit or debit card.

There are online driving courses and guides that will: help you learn how to drive, provide you with all the secrets and tips you need for passing your written test, take you step by step through the road test so that you’ll know what to expect, and will give you insight and advice on how to stay calm during the exam so that you can pass.

There are two parts to the theory test: the multiple-choice test and the hazard perception test. Both are required to be taken and passed in the same session in order to attain a theory test certificate, which can then be used to book the practical driving test within two years of the theory pass.

You don’t need to have had any previous driver training to take an intensive driving crash course, in fact you don’t need to have passed your theory test to commence learning to drive, however a little experience and knowledge goes a long way. It really is a big ask to come from having no experience of driving to pass your driving test in a 5 day intensive driving course.

The courses can operate in different ways but usually the first day of a week’s intensive driving course is spent studying theory and the second day of the course is taking the theory test, if successful the driving school can then book a practical driving test with the DSA.

This is sometimes an issue with this type of driving course; the driving test is booked where there is a driving test available. This means that, although you will be taking your driving lessons in one area – e.g. Blackpoll, you may be taking your test in a completely different area – e.g. Northwick. The disadvantage here is that you will not be able to gain any local knowledge of an area and identify ‘hot-spots’ where it is easy to be caught out on the driving test.

The next option is to go for a local successful driving school and have the intensive driving lessons and test in your own area (providing the DSA haven’t shut down your driving test centre yet!). The way I conduct intensive courses (and I have had many successes this way) is to meet the learner driver after they have passed their driving theory test, we then go online to the Driving Standards Agency website and book a driving test for the near future. The intensive driving course is booked backwards from the date of the test, so for example:

1. The driving test is booked for Friday.

2. The last driving lesson is booked to start on the morning of Fri and finish with the test

3. Day four of the intensive driving lesson is booked for Thurs

4. Day three of the intensive driving lesson is booked for Weds

5. Etc, etc

It may sound too good to be true, but it’s really not!  The internet has provided a way for people, like you, to learn everything there is to know about driving!

Pass Driving Test- You Should Know About Practical Driving Test !

A driving test (also known as a driving exam) is a procedure designed to test a person’s ability to drive a motor vehicle. It exists in various forms worldwide, and is often a requirement for obtaining a driver’s license. A driving test generally consists of one or two parts; the practical test, called a road test, used to assess a person’s driving ability under normal operating conditions, and/or a written or oral test (theory test) to confirm a person’s knowledge of driving and relevant rules and laws. In some countries, a maneuverability test is included with the practical test, which may include driving forward and backward through a set of traffic cones in a controlled environment or driving on the open, public road.

Practical Driving Test

It is necessary to have passed both components of the theory test before sitting this exam. Passing this test then entitles one to hold a full UK driving licence.

DSA Form DL25C: Driving Test Report issued to candidates by examiners

DSA Form DL25CRev: Rear of Driving Test Report

The practical test is taken on the road, with a professionally trained DSA examiner directing the candidate around a pre-determined route. The examiner marks the candidate for driving faults, serious faults, and dangerous faults. A candidate will fail the test if he or she accumulates any serious or dangerous faults, or more than fifteen driving faults. If a candidate accumulates several driving faults in the same category, the examiner may consider the fault habitual and mark a serious fault in that category. The test usually lasts 38 to 40 minutes in a standard test, or approximately 70 minutes when the candidate is taking an extended test after having had their licence revoked.

Vehicle safety questions

Before the candidate is taken out onto the road, the examiner asks two questions about car maintenance and safety.  This component of the test is often known as “Show me, tell me”. For example:

* Show me how you would check that the power assisted steering is working before starting a journey.

* Open the bonnet, identify where you would check the engine oil level and tell me how you would check that the engine has sufficient oil.

A failure to answer one or both of these questions correctly would result in a driving fault being marked against the candidate. The questions that may be asked are changed from time to time. From July 2008, there are 19 different questions which can be asked in 13 different combinations.

Manoeuvres : During the test, the examiner will ask the candidate to carry out one manoeuvre from the following list:

* Turn in the road (3 point turn)

* Reverse around a corner

* Reverse park into a space either parallel (on road), oblique or right-angle (in a marked bay in an off-road car park) This change from two manoeuvres to one was introduced to allow time for the independent driving section of the test that was introduced on 4 October 2010. Manoeuvres are selected at random by the examiner depending on the route chosen and conditions on route.

If, at any point during the test, the examiner has to intervene with any controls, this will usually result in failure and would be marked on the test report as a dangerous fault.
