Starting

If the auto has a manual transmission, it must not be in gear and in some autos the clutch must be depressed. For a vehicle which has an automated transmission, you must put the shift selector in “park.”

Accelerate gradually and smoothly. Trying to start too fast may cause your wheels to spin, especially on greasy surfaces, and cause the automobile to slip. With a manualshift vehicle, practice using the clutch and accelerator so that the engine doesn’t over-rev or stall when shifting gears.

It also positions your hands out of the way of the air bag. Leaning against the door, putting your elbow out the window, or driving with one hand can keep you from reacting quickly in an emergency. Look for traffic situations where you’ll need to point before you get to them. When turning pointy corners, turn the steering wheel using the “hand-over-hand” strategy. Letting it slip through your fingers may be dangerous.

Speeding and Speed limits

the only way to avoid speeding is to know how fast you’re going. Check the speedometer frequently. People are not superb at judging how fast they are going. Obey road limit signs. * 20 mph in class zones.

* fifty miles per hour on county roads.

* 60 mph on state highways.

* Parts of interstate highways could be posted with higher maximum speeds.

Stopping

Be cautious so that you know well beforehand when you may have to stop. Stopping suddenly is dangerous and usually points towards a driver who wasn’t listening. When you brake quickly, you could skid and lose control of your car. You also make it tougher for drivers behind you to stop without hitting you.

Seeing Well

almost all of what you do in driving relies on what you see. To be a good driver, you must see well. You have to not drive with more than three folks in the front seat if it blocks your view or meddles with your control of the automobile. The single largest contributor to collisions is failing to see what has happened. You must look down the line, to the sides, and behind your vehicle and be alert for unforeseen events. At night and at other times when it’s tricky to see, you may use your headlights. You have to be alert to what is going on around you. Do not take your eyes off the road for over some seconds at any particular time. If you need to take a look at a map, pull safely off the road before you try to have a look at it. Driving. In several collisions with bikes, bicycles and pedestrians, drivers announced that they were looking but didn’t see them.
